Creative Events

If there’s an opportunity to help people rediscover and explore their creativity (and their identity, and value)… count me in.

I’m based in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, and run regular creative workshops and events. If you’re local and interested in opportunities to explore your unique creative expression, follow me on Facebook or Instagram for the latest offerings.

WORKSHOP THEMES

recreate events new zealand

A free public event designed to spark creativity and enhance wellbeing in a community. The event concept was developed in the wake of Cyclone Gabrielle which struck New Zealand in February 2023. The storm had a devastating impact on the Hawke’s Bay region and its people, who were still reeling from the disruption of the pandemic. The inaugural RECREATE took place in August 2023, in Hastings, in two parts: RECREATE PLAY at the Hastings Sports Centre & RECREATE PEACE at the Heretaunga Women’s Centre. These grant-funded events were free to the public and attended by over 700 people. Two ‘small hall’ versions of the RECREATE PLAY event were held recently proving the event’s adaptability to different communities.

The arts and play have a powerful, positive impact on mental health & wellbeing. This event is a unique opportunity to draw a community together to connect and also offer inspiration for ongoing creative pursuit at an individual, whānau, and community level. There are no barriers to participation, all ages and abilities welcome. RECREATE utilises existing community venues, local artists and resources where possible. Reach out if you’re interested in hosting a RECREATE event in your community. Highlights from past events can be found at www.facebook.com/recreatehb.

Meet Sharleen

I KNOW LESS NOW, BUT MORE OF IT’S TRUE

Hey, I’m Sharleen. For years I lived frustrated, stuck in bad habits, and struggling with toxic mindsets. I’d faded into the background of my own life. When I started seeing a counsellor at 39, I just wanted to be fixed. Instead, I developed a new compulsion. To paint.

The value I found in art and creativity had nothing to do with ability, it was about expression. Through it I discovered courage to try new things, overcome perfectionism and my fear of failure. Challenging my mindsets and reconnecting with my innate creativity has changed everything for me. And now I help others do the same.
